“PlayStation Will “Never” Abandon Single-Player Story Driven Games. PlayStation is well known for its single player experiences. Whether that’s axe swinging big Daddy action in God Of War, or playing as a nippy little rodent in Ratchet And Clank, the platform leant heavily into its single player MO since the release of the PlayStation 5. However, a number of recent acquisitions such as Destiny developer Bungie, and most recently Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios, have called the future into question. While Raymond is best known for creating Assassin’s Creed, her company Haven is reportedly working on something more online. In an interview with GIBiz, head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst confirmed that PlayStation were looking to diversify its gaming output.”

“Major PS5 And PS4 System Updates Drop Today, With Hugely Requested New Features. The latest round of system updates for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 are being rolled out across the world today, bringing with them a bevy of highly requested new features and tweaks. After being tested earlier this year by beta participants, a fresh round of brand-new features are now ready to be dished out to the masses. At long last, PS5 and PS4 players players can create or join Open and Closed Parties. Meanwhile, the PS5 is packing a number of new customisation options, voice commands, and accessibility settings. On both consoles, players now have the option to select either an Open or Closed Party, which pretty much does exactly what you’d expect. An Open Party lets your friends (and friends of party members) jump in without an invite. Closed Parties are, of course, invite-only.”

“PlayStation 5 finally gets VRR support in “coming months” Sony is finally getting ready to add Variable Refresh Rate support for PS5 – which will arrive “in the coming months”. There’s no clearer word on when exactly that might be and, of course, existing PS5 games will still need an update to natively support VRR.”

“Update, 1:55 p.m. ET: Sony’s network status page indicates functionality has returned for most PSN services, except for the PlayStation Now streaming library. Original story follows. Sony rolled out a firmware update for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this morning. Around the same time, PlayStation’s online services went down, with players reporting connection issues with Elden Ring and GTAV, among other titles. It’s not yet clear if there’s a connection between the update and the downtime. The software update introduces system-wide support for a number of features previously only available in beta testing. You’ll be able to create or join open (any friends allowed) or closed (invite-only) parties on both consoles. The PS5 will receive support for mono audio headphones, and there’s additional functionality—well, for players based in the U.S. and U.K.—for voice commands. Those features come alongside some minor UI tweaks. Not included in today’s update, but revealed by Sony as a feature planned for the coming months, is the ability to activate variable refresh rate on PS5.”
