Former PlayStation boss wishes that Nintendo Switch 2 wasn’t just a better Switch: “Nintendo is losing their identity”

He says Nintendo used to focus on “new experiences” but now is giving us a “better” experience just like other platforms do. Nintendo has also talked about how they WANT the Switch 2 to be boring. We still dont know the price of the Switch 2 but it is likely that Nintendo is going to charge like $600 to dodge tarrifs as best as possible. Also in this video Dreamcastguy talks about the drama surroudning the fact that Digital Foundry posts a video that’s an ad for the Switch 2 editions of BotW and TotK. All voiceover provided by Nintendo, no commentary from the DF cast. was absolutely shocked to see this video pop up on my feed. Sponsored content can be ok sometimes, but this a straight-up ad with no DF content to speak of. It’s also for add-ons that are somewhat controversial in nature, being that they cost money for what are largely performance patches.

I really dislike getting any kind of ads, and I do my best to avoid them. Seeing one pop up like that will definitely lower my opinion of Digital Foundry. This video does not qualify as “sponsored content”, it’s not DF content, it’s just an advertisement. As a counterexample, there are sponsored Linus Tech Tips videos that I found very entertaining, such as this one. He generally only accepts sponsorships for products he already thinks are great.

Seriously, BotW and TotK are some of my favorite games ever, and they look incredible. How hard would it have been to make a 10 minute video presenting the graphical upgrades while also going over the technical aspects of its rendering? This is a really bad move from DF in my opinion, and I hope that they take the video down and never do anything like that again.
